Perfect for summer! This is a handspun and handwoven cotton scarf using the jamdani technique. An inlaid white square pattern and extra-weft motifs adorn the soft and sheer cotton khadi fabric.   The scarf is finished with hand-twisted tassels. It is made by Mudita Crafts, under the direction of Maoumita Das, a young, Kolkata-based woman entrepreneur  who hails from a weaver family in West Bengal.  It is woven by jamdani weavers in rural West Bengal.

Jamdani is an age-old and laborious weaving technique that dates back to the Mughal era.  In this technique,  extra-weft supplementary motifs are inlaid  by hand into the fabric while the threads are still on the loom. Jamdani is a Persian word dating back to Mughal times - Jam (flower) and Dani (vase).
