- Kala cotton is a resilient crop and indigenous to Kuchchh, Gujerat. It is entirely rain-fed and grows without pesiticides or irrigation despite Kuchchh's arid desert climate.
- Because it is easy to grow, its revival is supporting farmers, spinners weavers and dyers in Kuchchh.
- Women are employed to spin the yarn.
