Silk jamdani scarf - with inlaid stripes - deep rose
This is a 100% silk handwoven scarf with a handspun silk weft. The body is inlaid with stripes using denser colored thread. It is finished with hand-twisted tassels. This piece is designed by Karomi, a Kolkata-based textile design outfit owned by two sisters. This scarf was handwoven by jamdani weavers in rural West Bengal.
Jamdani is an age-old and laborious weaving technique that dates back to the Mughal era. In this technique, extra-weft supplementary motifs are inlaid by hand into the fabric while the threads are still on the loom.
