Shibori-Ajrakh Scarf - zig-zag stitched design with purple kumo

$52.00Price

This 100% silk stitched shibori and ajrakh scarf is made by Zuber and Imran Khatri, proprietors of Zia Bandhani, a small enterprise based in the Kachchh region of India, a region known for its rich textile heritage. Zuber is an artisan-designer and is a graduate of a design school started by Judy Frater, an American textile designer and social anthropologist.  Armed with the knowldge gained at the design school, the brothers have used their skills in bandhani (a traditonal tie-dye technique) to innovate new designs creating this scarf using shibori, a Japanese resist-dye technique. The border of this scarf is created using a complex hand-block-print technique called Ajrakh by a well-known Ajrakh artisan group. The surface design work thus crosses cultures, combining two well-known techniques from Japan and India.
