This is a silk-cotton handwoven scarf with a handspun cotton khadi weft. The border is inlaid with geometric motifs using denser colored thread.  It is finished with hand-twisted tassels.  This piece is  designed by Karomi, a Kolkata-based textile design outfit owned by two sisters.  This scarf was handwoven by jamdani weavers in rural West Bengal.

Jamdani is an age-old and laborious weaving technique that dates back to the Mughal era.  In this technique,  extra-weft supplementary motifs are inlaid  by hand into the fabric while the threads are still on the loom. Jamdani is a Persian word dating back to Mughal times - Jam (flower) and Dani (vase).
