Designed by Chelna Desai, one of India's leading Ikat experts. Ikat, or yarn resist dyeing involves tyeing and dyeing sections of bundled yarn to a pre-determind color scheme or pattern, before weaving. Thus, the dye penetrates into the exposed sections, while the tied sections remain undyed. The patterns are then woven into the fabric.

The characteristic blurred or fuzzy-edged appearance of ikat textiles is caused by the dye, which bleeds into the tied sections, due to capillary action along the yarn.
