Embroidered Cushion - Flora and Fauna
This hand-embroidered pillow is hand-made by Esterine, a woman in Sainte Luce, a village in rural southeastern Madagascar. Each pillow is unique with bright colors and a unique pattern reflecting the creativity of the embroiderer. In this case, Esterine has carefully and beautfiully embroidered birds, insects and animals inspired by the flora and fauna in the nature reserves and forests around her. In addition to making striking acccent pillows in your home, these pillows make thoughtful, meaningful gifts that give back and make you part of the story of women bettering their lives in one of the most impoverished countries in the world. Esterine belongs to Stitch Sainte Luce, a women's cooperative based in the village.
Stitch Sainte Luce is a sustainable livelihoods program training women embroiderers in south east Madagascar. The program has been running for seven years and is supported by a local NGO, SEED Madagascar. All of Stitch’s products are hand-embroidered on beautiful cotton with multi-coloured fabric, using designs that reflect the unique wildlife of the region. Many of the women are now able to produce their entire monthly income just from the embroidery.
